Earlier in his career he\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">held posit<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ions at the University of Leeds,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Q<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ueen Mary University of London,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">the Wiener Library in Londo<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">n<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0and the University<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0of Southampton. In 2005, Queen\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Elizabeth II appointed him to the Order of the British Empire for his work on creating Holocaust Memorial Day in his native Britain.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559739&quot;:240,&quot;335559740&quot;:300}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Professor Cesarani passed away <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">in October 2015, shortly after he had been chosen as the inaugural Sara and Asa Shapiro Annual Holocaust Testimony Scholar and had accepted this award, but before his selection was<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0made public.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">The\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">USC Shoah Founda<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">tion Center for Advanced Genocide Research hosted a symposium to honor him. The symposium featured renowned\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">international scholars dis<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">cussing Cesarani\u2019s work, his impact on\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Holocaust studies, and the con<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">nections between their own work<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0his contributions to the field.<\/span><span
