2025 Lev Student Research Fellowship Awarded to Nadia Al-Ani

Nadia Al-Ani

The USC Dornsife Center for Advanced Genocide Research has bestowed the 2025 Beth and Arthur Lev Student Research Fellowship to USC undergraduate student Nadia Al-Ani for Summer 2025.

The Beth and Arthur Lev Student Research Fellowship provides support for USC undergraduate and graduate students from any discipline to conduct original research using testimonies of the Visual History Archive (VHA) and related resources and collections housed at USC. Nadia Al-Ani is spending one month in residence at the Center in Summer 2025 and will present her research publicly during the 2025–2026 academic year.

Nadia Al-Ani is a rising senior who is double-majoring in in International Relations and Philosophy, Politics, and Law and pursuing a Masters in Public Diplomacy. During her time at the Center, Al-Ani is conducting research on the Armenian genocide and its enduring impact on the Armenian diaspora in Iraq and the broader Arab world. Her project draws on survivor and descendant testimonies from the Visual History Archive to explore questions of memory, intergenerational trauma, and identity formation. By focusing on a region often marginalized in dominant narratives of genocide memory, she aims to amplify understudied voices and contribute to a more inclusive understanding of post-genocide diasporas.

Nadia Al-Ani has served as a legal intern with Global Lawyers for Refugees, supporting legal advocacy for asylum seekers from South Asia. She currently contributes to the National Civic League’s Healthy Democracy research team and writes about justice, identity, and global politics for USC publications such as Glimpse from the Globe and Global Policy Institute.
