The Last Repair Shop: Special Screening and Q&A at USC

ByUSC Dornsife Institute of Armenian Studies

The USC Institute of Armenian Studies, USC School of Cinematic Arts, USC Thornton School of Music, Armenian Film Society, and Breakwater Studios, invite you to attend a special theatrical screening of The Last Repair Shop, shortlisted for an Oscar for Best Documentary Short Film. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Academy Award-nominated directing duo Ben Proudfoot and Kris Bowers.

The Last Repair Shop grants access to the nondescript, downtown warehouse in which a dwindling handful of devoted craftspeople keep over 80,000 student instruments in good repair. Featured in the film is Steve Bagmanyan, an Armenian-American craftsman who fled ethnic persecution in Azerbaijan in the 1980s.

Witness the profound life stories of four staff master craftspeople as well as the students whose lives have been transformed by their instrument. For those featured in the film, music has been the continuous thread that has mended their hearts and brought them to where they are now — fixing broken instruments to get them back into the longing hands of Los Angeles’ public school youth.

When: Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 7 PM

Where: Norris Cinema Theatre at the Frank Sinatra Hall, 3507 Trousdale Parkway, Los Angeles, CA 90007

The screening is free of charge and open to the public.

RSVP is required. Doors open at 6:30 PM.
