D-Clearance for Undergraduate Courses
The vast majority of courses offered in Anthropology are open to all interested students. However, enrollment may be restricted (“D-clearance”) for special courses or major requirements in order to ensure that Anthropology and Global Studies Majors and Minors have the opportunity to enroll.
If you are majoring or minoring in Anthropology, you may not need special permission to join a restricted course: just send an email to Anthropology Advisor Kim Vinson (vinson@usc.edu) requesting clearance to enroll.
If you are not an Anthropology or Global Studies major or minor, and you want to request permission to join a course that is not currently available for open enrollment (D-clearance), you must:
- Email the course instructor, briefly explaining why you would like to take the class and requesting their permission to enroll.
- If the instructor invites you to join their class, you should forward their email to Anthropology Advisor Kim Vinson (vinson@usc.edu), requesting D-clearance to enroll.
IMPORTANT: Please note that due room size and other limitations, it is sometimes not possible to add students to a restricted course, even after receiving the instructor’s permission.
