Road Scholar (formerly Elderhostel)

The USC Wrigley Institute hosts four- and five-day Elderhostel programs at the USC Wrigley Marine Science Center on Catalina Island. Elderhostel is a non-profit educational organization that offers college level academic programs—known as Road Scholar programs—at educational institutions around the world.

USC has hosted these programs on Catalina Island since 1982, and it is one of the earliest Elderhostel providers in the state of California.

The Road Scholar programs run by Elderhostel on Catalina Island focus on natural science and environmental studies.

Road Scholar participants usually do not need any specific educational background to enroll in a course. The courses are not offered for credit and do not require homework or exams. The programs are offered at different times during the year, you can check the schedule below for upcoming courses.

The Road Scholar programs on Catalina Island cost between $496 and $596, and the fees cover classes, materials, field trips, room and board, and a trip to Catalina Island's seaside tourist community, Avalon.
