Wilber completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biology from Cal State Northridge. His graduate thesis work centered on the role of four response regulator genes in cyanobacterial cellular differentiation. 

He was accepted in the the MCB PhD program at Dornsife College in 2010. He is currently working in Dr. Susan Forsburg's fission yeast lab. His doctoral research focuses on programmed genome instability during meiosis, which has fundamental implications in human reproductive health.
