Program Specialist/Trainer

The USC Shoah Foundation Institute for Visual History and Education is dedicated to utilizing its archive of nearly 52,000 video testimonies of Holocaust survivors and other witnesses for educational purposes. 

The Trainer will report to the Educational Programs, Project Director and work closely with the Senior Trainer/Content Specialist to design and deliver professional development training programs to K-12 educators based on the Institute’s archive of testimonies. 

The Institute is seeking an individual with extensive knowledge of Holocaust history and pedagogy, classroom experience teaching the Holocaust and/or genocide studies, and experience training educators.  Knowledge of current and emerging trends and approaches to teaching digital and media literacy is highly desirable.  The position is based in Los Angeles.

The Institute is looking for an individual with a minimum of three years experience teaching the Holocaust and training K-12 educators.  This is a grant-funded position.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Conducts outreach and delivers professional development teacher-training program
  • Develops content, curriculum, and training materials as needed
  • Drafts proposals and presents at conferences
  • Develops and maintains relationships within the USC community and with external partners as appropriate
  • Provides support and mentoring to educators in the Institute’s Teacher Innovation Network
  • Oversees and manages the Institute’s “Teaching with Testimony” award program
  • Works with staff to develop program collaterals and post teacher projects and updates on the web
  • Manages Institute’s teacher Ning
  • Writes grant proposals and drafts stewardship reports
  • Manages and tracks schedules and budgets
  • Keeps informed of educational trends as they relate to the Institute’s work
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years experience teaching the Holocaust
  • Minimum of three years training K-12 educators
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in education, history, or related field
  • Experience writing curriculum preferred
  • Experience editing videos preferred
  • Excellent computer skills (proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Stewardship Officer

The Office of College Advancement is seeking an experienced and skilled Stewardship Officer to support the USC Shoah Foundation Institute and its sustainability and transformation of an expanding fundraising operation in preparation for a its comprehensive campaign within the overall University of Southern California campaign.

The Stewardship Officer will be responsible for using her/his skills, understanding, and experience in supporting development operations to assist the Shoah Foundation Institute development officers in the stewardship and on-going cultivation of donations to support the annual giving campaign and the endowment of the Institute’s five pillars of activity conducted in the United States and around the world; including, Scholarship and Research, Access, Teacher Education, New Testimonies, and Preservation. This position requires a thorough knowledge of non-profit institutions and the complexities of engaging a wide array of constituencies, academic departments, and institutes. This position must have a proven track record of managing events, alumni engagement, writing acknowledgement publications/letters, and maintaining and expanding boards, volunteers, and recognition clubs in support of the sustainable and perpetual success of the Institute within the Dornsife College. The candidate must have prior experience in supporting a large scale, complex fundraising operation through the consistent stewardship of private support within non profit organizations and/or leading globally recognized research and undergraduate institutions.

In January 2006, the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation became part of the Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where the testimonies in the Visual History Archive will be preserved in perpetuity. The change of name to the USC Shoah Foundation Institute for Visual History and Education reflects the broadened mission of the Institute: to overcome prejudice, intolerance, and bigotry—and the suffering they cause—through the educational use of the Institute’s visual history testimonies. Today, the Institute reaches educators, students, researchers, and scholars on every continent, and supports efforts to collect testimony from the survivors and witnesses of other genocides.

The Director of Development will be responsible for using his or her extensive network and experience in cultivating and securing donations to support the funding, programmatic and operational needs of the Shoah Foundation Institute. This position requires a thorough knowledge of gift vehicles including planned, capital, and principle gifts and the complexities required to cultivate, secure, and steward these funds. This position requires a thorough understanding of non-profit institutions and the complexities of engaging a wide array of constituencies, academic departments, and institutes. The incumbent must have a proven track record of consistently obtaining private support in the amount of $100K and more in support of a leading globally recognized research and undergraduate institution.

Director of Development, Corporate & Foundation Relations

The Director of Development, Corporate & Foundation Relations (CFR), will be responsible for using their extensive network and experience in clutivating and securing grants and gifts to support the Shoah Foundation Institute (SFI). The Shoah Foundation Insitute is part of the USC Dana And David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences; its mission is to overcome prejudice, intolerance, and bigotry—and the suffering they cause—through the educational use of its visual history testimonies. Working within the University and with partners around the world to advance education, research and scholarship, the Institute provides unique and essential content through the dissemination of its testimonies.

This position requires a thorough knowledge and track record of success in grant writing requirements and the complexities of securing and stewarding grant awards for the sustainable future of SFI. USC Dornsife represents over 60 departments, institutes and centers and almost 500 tenured faculty who rely heavily on private support from foundations and corporations. This requirement necessitates a highly sophisticated and experienced devleopment team with superior grant writing/research capabilities to address the extraordinary number of diverse initiatives and program needs.

The Director serves as part of the foundation devleopment and corporate philanthropy team responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of private foundation and corporate gifts in the $25,000-$1,000,000 range for support of identified priorities. The Director will develop strategies that increase foundation grants, corporate philanthropy and corporate collaborations for SFI. The Director manages solicitations of foundation and corporate grants by senior administrators, deans, faculty, volunteers and in the collaboration with the members of the CFR team within the USC Dornsife Office of Advancement.
