Undergraduate Opportunities

Young Scientists Program Teaching Assistant: Position: Closed

JEP is searching for six students - undergraduate or graduate - with at least one year to commit to the Young Scientistprogram beginning fall 2011. The YSP Teaching Assistants implement hands-on science lessons to fourth and fifth grade classrooms at the five schools served by the USC ReadersPLUS program (Weemes Elementary, Vermont Elementary, Norwood Elementary, 32nd Street USC MaST, and Foshay Learning Center. In presenting engaging and interactive science labs, TAs support teachers and students in reaching the goal of implementing effective science instruction into their classrooms. The objective is that the science labs at these schools will serve as a model for other school sites and will lead to increased science activities in all of USC’s Family of Schools.

Public Service Internship: Position: Open

The Public Service Internship Program is designed to give undergraduate JEP students a deeper understanding of non-profits and other community-based organizations. The program provides funding for students to build on their service-learning experiences by becoming 25%- or 50%-time interns at a community-based organization – ideally the same organization at which they served as a service-learning student. The internships will vary depending on the needs of the organization, but most will involve helping the organizations with fund-raising, grant-writing, program development, or other activities that are core to the agency’s operations. More information is found here.
