Queen Mary, University of London

Program Site: Queen Mary’s Mile End campus in the East End of London.

Eligibility: Open to English, Narrative Studies, International Relations, Political Science, History, Theatre, Cinematic Arts, and Engineering majors only. Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Students are required to take at least two courses for major credit (Cinematic Arts majors must sign up for two cinema, film studies or production courses, one of which must count for major credit).

Description:
Queen Mary is the third largest constituent college of the University of London. Located in the East End, it is the only university in the city to have a real campus. The East End is a very diverse area, complete with bustling street markets, ethnic cafes and restaurants, traditional pubs, museums and art galleries; Victoria Park, Regent’s Canal and Canary Wharf are all nearby. The East End is a 15-minute tube ride to the center of the city.

Queen Mary has a student population of just over 11,000 and hosts about 400 study abroad students each semester. USC students are directly enrolled and take courses alongside British students.

Academics: Students can choose from courses in any of the university’s 17 departments. Queen Mary has excellent offerings in subjects such as English, drama, engineering (including aerospace engineering), film studies, history and politics.

Course load and Credit: Students must take four courses, two of which must be taken for major credit (see Eligibility above). The maximum number of units granted is 13 for the fall semester, 15 for the spring semester or 30 for the full year. View Queen Mary's module directory for course listings.

Activities and Other Program Features: Queen Mary has over 100 sports clubs, student organizations, and a community volunteer program. The Queen Mary Student Union organizes campus events and activities throughout the year. Students enrolled at Queen Mary also become members of the University of London Student Union, which has recreational facilities and organizes a number of events for students from all over the city.

In addition, the USC UK Resident Coordinator leads several excursions in England and Scotland each semester, which are open to all students attending UK universities through USC Dornsife overseas programs.

Accommodations: Students are guaranteed on-campus dormitory housing in single rooms. Queen Mary does not have a meal plan – clusters of four to six rooms on the same floor share kitchen facilities. There are also a number of restaurants on campus.

Dates: Fall, Spring or Year. Fall semester runs from mid-September to late December, spring semester runs from early January to early June.
