Junior standing is required by start of program. Students are required to take at least three courses for major credit at KCL.
Description: King’s (KCL) is a constituent college of the University of London and the third oldest university in England. Consistently ranked among the top 15 universities in the UK, it has close to 20,000 students and welcomes about 200 study abroad students every year. The college has an urban campus with buildings located throughout London. Most USC students take courses at the Strand campus (Guy's campus hosts the sciences).
Academics: USC students study alongside British students and can choose from any course in the KCL catalog; the English and Politics departments are of particular note. KCL also has a special program for pre-med students, allowing them to combine coursework with opportunities to shadow healthcare professionals. Students interested in peace and conflict or security issues may enroll in KCL’s Department of War Studies, one of the few university departments in the world devoted to the study of all aspects of war and conflict.
Course load and Credit: Students take four courses, three of which must be within the same deparment. The maximum number of units granted is 13 for the fall semester, 15 for the spring semester, and 30 for the academic year. View courses on the KCL Module catalogue.
Activities and Other Program Features: Students can choose from a wide variety of sports and social clubs offered by the King’s Student’s Union. Students enrolled at KCL become members of the University of London Student Union, which has recreational facilities and organizes a number of events for students from all over the city.
In addition, the USC UK Resident Coordinator leads several excursions in England and Scotland each semester, which are open to all students attending UK universities through USC Dornsife overseas programs.
Accommodations: Students are guaranteed housing in single rooms in dormitories located throughout the city. Only one of the King’s dorms has a meal plan; the others are ‘self-catered’ – kitchen facilities are shared by students living on the same floor. Housing is located throughout London and students should expect to commute to classes.
Dates: Fall, Spring or Year. Fall semester runs from mid September to late December, spring semester runs from early January to early June.
