The College Commons Series Description

Measuring Polities, Measuring Bodies: Remapping Representation and Race in Latin America

Organized by María Elena Martínez (History, and American Studies and Ethnicity) and Carol Wise (International Relations)

This series takes as its geographical sphere Latin America, although the themes around which the symposia revolve are universal and touch on transnational topics such as the metaphorical and physical border between the United States and Mexico. Its purpose is to rethink topics related to the measurement of political, social, and racial issues, and in doing so bridge metaphorical and material boundaries in ways that foster mutual understanding and exchange across different disciplines, in particular between methodological and theoretical approaches in the humanities and social sciences.
