General Ward at LAC

Time/Wk: 4 hours
Total Time: 100 hours for letter
Hours of Operation: Monday-Sunday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
Duties: General Wards: patient interaction, transporting, errands, assist staff, listen to reports, charts
Daytime Clinics (no weekends) :
Physical Therapy /Occupational Therapy: shadow pt, translate, pt admission, assist pt clerks, construct equipment
If you can Translate: minor trauma, walk-in clinic
ICU: observe, desk help, errands
Location: LAC/USC HSC, available by tram, MTA

Orthopedic Hospital

Time/Wk: 2 hours
Total Time: 50 hours
Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Duties: Various Departments including Recovery Rooms, Plaster Clinic, Research with the Germ Institute/ Biomechanical Engineering, P.T., O.T., Pediatrics-shadowing
Location: Flower and Adams, accessible by walking or biking (5-10 minutes)

St. John's Well Child Care Center

St. John's is a pediatric clinic where work is dependent upon patient volume. There is an intense view of clinical and community medicine in an urban atmosphere.

Hours of Operation: Monday/Wednesday (9am-5pm), Tuesday/Thursday (11am-7pm), Friday (9am-4pm), Saturday (8am-4pm)
Duties: filebacks, pt. Charts, assist M.A.s
Location: Figueroa and Adams, next to the Mobil Gas Station

Keck Medical Center of USC

Time/Wk: 4 hours
Total Time: 75 hours or 6 months (whichever is first)
Hours of Operation: 7 days, 7 am-9 pm for best times *evenings/weekends are slower check tram schedule/ campus cruiser to ensure transportation
Duties: In the PM only: Patient Rounds~ 6 Total Medical Surgical Units (Liver/Kidney Transplants, Orthopedics, Cardiology, etc.) 4 Total ICUs (Cardiothoracic ICU, Medical ICU (Step Down), Surgical ICU)
In the AM only: Anesthesia, Pre-Op, Post-Op, Outpatient Surgery
Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy,
Sports Medicine(weekends only- Injury Clinic)
Physician Shadowing (Starting Late Fall)
Possible Surgical Skills Lab Lectures
Possible seminars, Surgical viewings
Location: HSC- accessible by USC Tram, Campus Cruiser

USC Norris Cancer Center

Time/Wk: 4 hours
Total Time: at least 40 hours, longer commitment recognized
Hours of Operation: M-F, 8 am - 5 pm
Duties: Image Enhancement, Pre-Surgery: assist RNs, Day Clinic: assist RNs, Blood Draw: assist phlebotomy staff, General: work under supervision of assigned dept. director, Radiation/Oncology, Pharmacy- tests and studies
