Richard Fliegel

Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs

Richard Fliegel is Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs in USC College.  Working with the Vice Dean for Academic Programs and faculty in the College’s departments, Dr. Fliegel creates new curriculum and oversees the College’s interdisciplinary studies office, writing program, language center, advisement office, and community-based, service learning Joint Educational Project, as well as University-wide elements of the undergraduate academic experience at USC, including the general education program, freshman seminar program, and others. 

Dr. Fliegel researches the use of student writing to assess critical thinking and writes fiction and work in other media.   He has published seven detective novels with Bantam and Pocket Books and short stories in collections.  His book A Minyan for the Dead was nominated for a Shamus Award by the Private Eye Writers of America.  A member of the WGA West, he has written for Star Trek and ABC network television.  He lives in Santa Monica, California, with his wife Lois, his dog Cleo, and occasionally with his sons.
