While the classroom is the hub for Master of Professional Writing students and faculty, the MPW program actively fosters a vibrant community of writers by organizing panel discussions, author readings, and guest lectures with notable writers in all genres—thereby broadening the scope of the MPW experience and deepening our sense of camaraderie. While most of these events are free and open to public on the USC campus, MPW also hosts a handful of events exclusively for MPW students only, including our annual Welcome Reception, Student/Faculty Teas, and in-class Skype conversations with writers outside of Los Angeles. Additional opportunities to connect to classmates, faculty, and the L.A. writing community are offered through participation in the production of the Southern California Review, MPW's national literary journal; monthly Student/Faculty Readings at venues around town; the Writing for Stage and Screen Festival in the Spring; culminating public performances in select courses; and teaching internships, as well as internships in the entertainment and publishing industries.
