"Seth Baum, Managing Director of the SoundView Group, talked to MHB students about the importance of developing a social media marketing strategy. Mr. Baum mentioned that a common mistake involves not devoting sufficient time and resources to social media, insisting, “If you have a social media account, it should be active.” According to Mr. Baum, the majority of Fortune 500 companies have a strategy for their social media marketing. He emphasized that social media marketing should be geared towards real goals, which allow companies to measure the impact of their social media campaigns. As with traditional marketing methods, there is a still a need to gain insight into target audiences in order discover reasons why people “follow” things."
