Overview
The Master's in Human Behavior Program offers a Master of Science degree designed for those who have received their undergraduate degrees in social science fields, e.g., psychology, sociology, economics, anthropology, and political science. Those who have majored in other topic areas may be admitted if there is sufficient evidence of alternative training or work experience that has provided expertise in principles of human behavior. Completion of additional coursework to remedy insufficient background may be a condition of admission.
The MHB® degree is earned by completion of 34 units of study. If one enrolls for the accelerated, full-time option, this can be completed in one year. Alternatively, students can earn the degree taking one or two courses each semester, and every effort is made to schedule classes in the late afternoon or evening to better accommodate the schedules of working professionals.
Please be advised that the course content and assignments focus on fine-tuning the students' understanding of applied psychological concepts as they relate to various professional fields. We believe that the emphasis on issues relating to human behavior provides our graduates with insights that are relevant for a number of professions, and that a broad education in applied psychology will help them to advance more quickly in their chosen profession. However, each field requires skills that are not taught directly in the MHB program. For example, we do not teach graphic design, ad layout, or how to structure a website. We do not teach financial aspects of marketing, or employment law that is useful to a human resource professional. While we do offer a speaker series consisting of both lectures and practical workshops presented by senior professionals, it is largely the student's responsibility to garner the aforementioned "hard skills" either through additional coursework, their MHB internship, or on the job.
