History

Matthew grew up in upstate New York, and graduated from Harvard University in 2006 with a B.A. in history and literature and a foreign language citation in Italian. His undergraduate honors thesis explored how film in 1930s America became a crucial battleground for understanding the relationship between cultural representation and political change. In the College’s history department, he continues to examine visual culture, including film and photography. Matthew’s interests also include the history of immigration, race and ethnicity in modern America. In his spare time, he enjoys exploring the dynamic city of Los Angeles and playing soccer.
