Originally from Richmond, Va., Katie completed her undergraduate work at Washington & Lee University with degrees in art history and business administration, then received her M.A. in art history from Vanderbilt University. Her studies have focused on contemporary art and visual culture. Still in the process of conducting predissertation research, Katie is looking at the work of American artists in urban spaces in the 1970s–1990s — especially at artist/activist groups who appropriated a range of media in their efforts to produce varied forms of public address.
