Born and raised in Texas, Joyce attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated with a B.S. in mathematics, a B.A. in English and a minor in biology. Her research interests include developing new methods of computational analysis as well as finding new ways of applying existing computational methods to large data sets from evolutionary biology studies. After her Ph.D., she plans on becoming a professor and continuing to do research.
