DMT Invasive Skills Training

The USC Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber and the Diver’s Alert Network (DAN) will be runs a DMT Invasive Skills Training Course at the USC Wrigley Marine Science Center on Catalina Island. The course is taught by Scott Smith, DAN’s Training Programs Manager with the support of the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber Crew. Tuition for the course is $225, which includes double occupancy dorm room housing and meals for the two days (single occupancy housing is available for an additional $34). The class schedule is set up to take advantage of USC's School Boat which is available at no charge. Any alternative transportation to and from the island will be the responsibility of the student.
With the changes in the Diving Medical Technician (DMT) requirements all renewing DMT-Basic and prospective DMTs (without Paramedic or equivalent training) are required to have specific invasive skills training including:
- Intravenous access
- Intramuscular & subcutaneous injections
- Insertion of urinary catheter
- Insertion of nasogastric/orogastric tube
- Oropharynx/orogastric suction
- Airway control
- Chest decompression
Accommodations and meals are included in the tuition. Students will be housed in the USC Wrigley Marine Science Center dorm rooms. Meals are served in the Center's cafeteria.
