Why and How You Came to this Topic:

This topic is a result of my combined interest in both Political Science and History. I feel that this topic blends my two interests well and allows me to add something new to the research that has been conducted regarding the Election of 1800 which is commonly cited as being a turning point in the history of the United States, but few take the time to analyze the underlying factors of why this election resulted in such a contentious campaign that effectively divided the nation.

Travel and Funding You Have Done/Received:

I received the USC Provost’s Fellowship this summer which allowed me to travel to Washington DC, Historic Pennsylvania, and Virginia where I was able to gain access to archives and various exhibits relevant to my research.

“I want to grow as a writer and to culminate my four years at USC with a substantive paper that would showcase my passion for history and incorporate knowledge and lessons that I have learned throughout various History courses.”
