The certificate in Foreign Language Teaching provides certification in the theory and practice of second or foreign language teaching for student language teachers concurrently enrolled in graduate degree programs in foreign languages or related graduate programs at USC; for graduates of such programs who are teaching languages; for external candidates concurrently enrolled in similar programs at accredited colleges or universities; or for graduates of such programs who are teaching languages. The certificate is meant to supplement graduate study in the literature or linguistics of foreign languages. It is also meant to supplement classroom teaching.

The Gender Studies Program offers a graduate certificate in Gender Studies for students exploring explore the social and biological basis of culture, the structure and development of language and custom, and specialized topics focusing on women and history, world literature, culture, and society. To apply for the graduate certificate, the student must first be admitted to the Graduate or Professional School in a major discipline. Students in some graduate and professional programs may fulfill requirements for an outside field through coursework in the Gender Studies Program.

The certificate in Visual Anthropology offered by the Department of Anthropology is an interdisciplinary program, with training in digital video production provided by the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Professional skills in video production are designed to help students present their research results to a wider audience and to use visual media effectively in communicating ideas about anthropology. Students can be admitted to the certificate program in visual anthropology after they have completed their Ph.D. qualifying examinations.

The Visual Studies Graduate Certificate is designed for students enrolled in a Ph.D. program at USC whose scholarly work includes a significant focus on visual culture. Rather than attending to visual forms (e.g., art, film, photography, advertising, digital media, and illustrated books) in isolation from one another, the certificate considers the overlaps between images, texts, and material objects was well as the alternative modes of interpretation such overlaps demand.
