This presentation of results from a research project on democracy, territorial issues and international conflict will help to enhance understanding of international events in our world.
Description:
A sustained controversy in the field of International Relations centers on the effects of territorial issues and type of government on escalation of conflict. Research to date supports an important role for the presence of territorial issues and dictatorships in accounting for escalation of disputes. Unanswered, however, are questions such as this one: How do democracies behave when a contentious issue such as territory arises as the source of strife between them? The presentation of results from a research project on democracy, territorial issues and international conflict will help to enhance understanding of the interplay among these aspects of our world today. A compelling response to the question of how territorial issues and type of government impact together on international cooperation and conflict will have significant implications for the playing out of any number of contemporary events.
