American Catholicism confronts the challenges of the 21st century, Latinos compose a substantial and continually increasing proportion of its base. This lecture compares the attitudes and Catholic identity of Latino and non-Latino Catholics in the U.S., and probes attendant tensions in the public role of the church in American society. It also considers how generational and gender differences among Latino Catholics are likely to impact the future character of American Catholicism at large.
