World Health Day L.A.
Going for the Gold
Bring your friends and family to the Los Angeles Expo Center for a day of free health screenings, education, sports games and entertainment.
World Health Day L.A. is a joint event between the University of Southern California; the University of California, Los Angeles; and the Western University of Health Sciences. Each year, the schools team up to give local families a day of free screenings, activities and entertainment to promote healthy lifestyles.
In anticipation of the 2012 London Olympics, this year’s theme is “Going for the Gold,” to promote health through exercise and nutrition. Held at one of the 1932 Olympic Games sites, the fourth annual World Health Day L.A. gathers Olympians, local businesses, health experts, students and community members at the L.A. Expo Center — near USC’s University Park Campus — for a free health fair and sports games for kids.
The USC School of Pharmacy will provide free cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure screenings, in addition to various health and hygiene information sessions.
Out on the field, kids can learn from the pros at athletics booths, covering archery, basketball, gymnastics, football, soccer, track and volleyball.
Global dance groups and musicians — including the USC Trojan Marching Band and spirit leaders — will entertain the crowd throughout the day.
