Professor Lassi Heininen (University of Lapland—Rovaniemi, Finland) is one of the world’s leading experts on the Arctic. He has published widely on Arctic legal, environmental, and security issues associated with climate change, and has pioneered study of “circumpolarity” and Arctic global governance. He holds appointments at several other universities as well, including Trent University (Canada) and the University of Akureyri (Iceland). Dr. Heininen also chairs the Steering Committee of the Northern Research Forum, and was a lead author of the landmark Arctic Human Development Report published by the Arctic Council under the auspices of United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in 2004.
