Diversity Caucus, Faculty Council

Akira Mizuta Lippit, Chair (2011-12)

The Diversity Caucus of the College Faculty Council was formed to solidify the pursuit of issues related to diversity and equity in the College and University, and reflects the appointment of a Dean of Diversity in the College Dean’s Office.  In regular conversations with the Dean of Diversity, the Diversity Caucus has sought to understand the primary concerns and efforts of the Dean’s Office in the areas of faculty hiring and retention, graduate admissions and recruitment, curriculum development, and other aspects of College administration that bear upon questions of diversity.  At the same time, the Diversity Caucus has remained pro-active in developing its own diversity agendas that reflect the broader initiatives of the Faculty Council and the interests of the entire College faculty.  Since its founding in 2010, the Diversity Caucus has pressed the College and University administration for greater transparency in its diversity data, worked closely with the Dean’s Office to develop and help implement new diversity initiatives, opened lines of communication between the College faculty at large and the Dean’s Office to convey specific areas of concern, and helped to define and articulate a vision for increased diversity in all dimensions of the College and University.

The Diversity Caucus welcomes input from all College faculty and seeks to keep diversity criteria at the forefront of the College and University’s pursuit of academic excellence.
