Biographical Sketch

I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and am an alumnus of Gonzaga University. My research interests are sports, race, gender, and education. For my MA thesis I conducted an ethnography and interview study of a boxing gym in South Los Angeles where I observed and interviewed amateur boxing coaches. My dissertation project examines sports more generally as it seeks to illuminate how, when, and for whom organized high school sports matter. In my spare time I am an avid fan of Seattle sports (even the Sonics) and I compete as an amateur boxer. My advisers are Dr. Veronica Terriquez and Dr. Mike Messner.
