Richard Rayner was born in the north of England, educated at Cambridge University, where he studied philosophy and law, and has lived in Los Angeles for twenty years. He is the author of ten books, both fiction and non-fiction, including 'Los Angeles With a Map' (filmed from his own script with David Tennant, Vinissa Shaw, Johnny Depp and Julie Delpy), 'The Blue Suit' , 'Murder Book', and, most recently 'A Bright and Guilty Place'. He writes for the Los Angeles Review of Books, the LA Times, the New Yorker and other publications. He continues to write for TV, as well as film. He teaches at USC in the Masters of Professional Writing program. He is married with two sons. One boxes and surfs and is in high school; the other studies at USC and plays violin. Both are fluent in Englisn, and in Finnish too, the language of their mother.
