Academic Programs Manager: July 2000 to present, Department of Biological Sciences, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA. Assist the department Chair in: • developing and overseeing the department’s undergraduate and graduate curriculum and instructional programs • faculty teaching loads and course assignments • overseeing the department’s undergraduate instructional labs and supervision of staff • coordination and oversight for the department’s budgets • non-tenure track faculty appointments, promotions and lectureships • updating and certifying the departments course catalog • provide department-wide coordination and preparation of grant proposals for educational matters • oversee the Department’s space utilization plan for five academic buildings on the University Park Campus • maintain all faculty and staff personnel folders for the department • annual activity reports and merit reviews for department faculty • oversee the department’s course and instructional evaluation system

Summary Statement of Research Interests


  • Studies of microbial community structure and metabolic activity utilizing biochemical methods to determine membrane phospholipid fatty acid biomarkers and metabolic activity (3H-thymidine and 14C-sodium acetate incorporation) of McMurdo Sound, Ross Ice Shelf, and Arthur Harbor, Anvers Island Antarctic peninsula. Detremining microbial structure in deep-surface aquifers and sediments. Development of detection methods via gas chromatograpy and gas chromatography mass spectra of signature membrane lipids in various microbial environments.
