Biography

DeAnna M. Rivera teaches several courses in the Writing Program including various thematic offerings of “Writing 150: Writing and Critical Reasoning” and  “Writing 340: Advanced Writing.”  DeAnna taught writing and literature at several institutions across the U.S. before going on to earn her law degree with a focus on Indigenous Peoples’ Human Rights Law.  After practicing and teaching law for eight years, DeAnna joined the USC Writing Program faculty and served as the inaugural Thematic Coordinator for the Law & Social Justice Thematic of WRIT 150, continuing to examine the world of writing through a legal lens and the world of law through a writer’s lens.
