Biographical Sketch

Edward Pultar is a Lecturer in the Spatial Sciences Institute at the University of Southern California.  His interests pertain to Geographic Information Science and Systems (GIS), mobile devices, social networks, travel behavior, and other dynamic spatio-temporal phenomena.  He obtained a B.S. degree in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics from the University of Utah.  While completing his M.S. degree in Geography at the University of Utah he researched dynamic, spatio-temporal GIS representations, models, queries, geovisualization, and implementations through a grant from the National Science Foundation.  

Subsequently he attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he obtained a Ph.D. in Geography.  There he also received a research grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, the President’s dissertation fellowship from the University of California, the Geography Department’s Excellence in Teaching award, and the Dangermond fellowship award for excellence in GIScience research.  During his doctoral studies Edward held an Honorary Appointment in the Department of Geomatics at the University of Melbourne, Australia, and was also a GIS Engineering intern working on Google Earth at Google, Inc., in Mountain View, California.   Following this he was a visiting professor at Universitat Jaume I in Castellón, Spain, working with the Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies degree program run jointly with the University of Münster in Germany and University Nova de Lisboa in Portugal.
