Biographical Sketch

Dr. Mai’a K. Davis Cross researches issues of European integration, security, foreign policy, diplomacy, and public diplomacy. Her most recent book is "Security Integration in Europe: How Knowledge-based Networks are Transforming the European Union" (University of Michigan Press, 2011). This book examines how epistemic communities of diplomats, military officials, scientists, and crisis management experts in Europe promote EU security integration. She is also the author of a previous book, "The European Diplomatic Corps: Diplomats and International Cooperation from Westphalia to Maastricht" (Palgrave Macmillan, 2007), which takes a comparative historical perspective on epistemic communities of diplomats in Europe. Her current research includes a book project with the working title, "The Politics of Crisis in Europe," and another entitled, "European Public Diplomacy: Soft Power at Work." Professor Cross holds a Ph.D. in Politics from Princeton University, and a bachelor’s degree in Government from Harvard University. In 2009, she was a Fulbright fellow as well as a visiting fellow at the EU Institute for Security Studies.
