Biographical Sketch

Dr. Ernest Katz is Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Psychology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, and he also holds an appointment as Clinical Professor of Psychology in the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences. Dr. Katz directs the Behavioral Sciences Section of the Childrens Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, home to the Department of Pediatrics for the Keck School of Medicine. His clinical interests include the psychological care of children and adolescents with chronic illnesses, anxiety disorders in children and teens, behavioral pain management, and clinical hypnosis. His research interests include quality of life in young people with cancer and chronic illness, their families and care providers; facilitating adherence to medical treatment in adolescents with cancer; maternal adjustment in pediatric cancer and bone marrow transplantation; behavioral aspects of pain management; cognitive remediation and school adjustment in childhood cancer survivors; multicultural aspects of coping and adjustment in pediatric chronic illness; and problem solving skills training in young people with chronic illness and their families. He is a licensed psychologist in the State of California and holds a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Southern California, Clinical Psychology Program.
