Biographical Sketch

The past seven years have been busy for Danielle Roman. The mother to seven year old Parker has taught several activity classes as well as two lecture classes available for the Physical Education program; Stress Management for Healthy Living and First Aid and CPR.  Danielle proposed the Walking for Fitness course that started fall 2010. In addition, she is hoping to add Intro to Rock Climbing next year. Fitness has been a part of her life from an early age. “I ran my first 10K with my dad when I was six years old,” says Roman. “I still love running marathons and half marathons. I just enjoy staying active.” On the community college level, Danielle has had the opportunity to introduce new course curriculum which resulted in the implementation of courses for several community colleges across the Los Angeles area. She also published the Instructor Resource Manual for the Health Science and Athletics Department at El Camino College which currently serves as a guide for the instructors to help facilitate teaching for the weight training parent class and weight training laboratory sections. Danielle’s fitness background is not limited to her experience as an instructor. She served as the Fitness Center supervisor for El Camino where she administered fitness assessments and developed programs for students, staff, faculty, and athletes. She was the project coordinator and one of the trainers for two National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Movement Science Laboratories (MSL) studies entitled “Effects of Strength and Endurance of Sedentary Adults using the BODYBLADE” and “Difference in Caloric Expenditure using the Body Vibe device.” Danielle was also an exercise trainer for three NIH research studies, “Testosterone Replacement and Resistance Exercise Training in HIV-infected Men: Effects on Body Composition and Strength,” “Testosterone Replacement and Resistance Exercise Training in COPD Men” and “End-Stage Renal Disease and Exercise Training.” Depending on the season, Danielle can be found snowboarding in Canada, competing in a paddle boarding race in Catalina, surfing in Fiji or rock climbing in New Zealand. “I love being on a mountain or in the water. If I get a combination of both worlds, I’m a happy camper,” says Roman. She recently sold South Bay’s only indoor rock climbing gym and continues to stay active with her daughter. Says Roman, “I love to practice what I preach. Staying healthy is my passion and that’s why I love what I do!”
