Description of Research

Summary Statement of Research Interests

Professor Meyer studies modern and contemporary art, with an emphasis on twentieth-century American art, cultural studies, gay and lesbian studies, censorhip and the public sphere, and the history of photography. His research is particularly concerned with the ongoing cultural debate over sexuality and gender and its effects upon modern art and visual culture. Professor Meyer's work has appeared in a variety of venues, ranging from art journals and museum publications to anthologies of lesbian and gay theory and literary criticism.

Other Advisement or Time Devoted to Students

While on leave at the University of Pennsylvania, I met with 5 of my advanced Ph.D. students on a regular basis throughout the year in Los Angeles, New York, and, in one case, Philadelphia. All five students successfully passed their Ph.D. qualifying exams at the end of the academic year., 2006-2007

New Courses Developed

"Contemporary Art and the Art of Curating", Art History/USC Fisher Museum, In collaboration with Selma Holo, I developed the first curatorial course for undergraduates at USC. The year-long course culminated in a student-curated exhibition at the USC Fisher Museum of Art in Spring 2010., 2009-2010
