Description of Research |
Summary Statement of Research Interests |
| I am currently finishing a book manuscript, Paradise Transplanted: Migration and Southern California Gardens. The book looks at Southern California gardens through a migration lens, beginning with the observation that nearly all the people, plants and water here have come from elsewhere. I explore the history of this, but the book centers on several contemporary case studies examining urban community gardens, the suburban maintenance gardening industry which produces the beautiful residential gardens, and the negotiated cultural representations at an elite botanical garden. I'm also co-authoring a few articles with colleagues, and I am excited to begin a new book series in Latino/a Sociology at NYU Press with sociologist Victor Rios. | |
