Summary Statement of Research Interests |
|
| Professor Berger's original research focused on 20th century Japanese political and institutional history. More recently, as a trained psychoanalyst, he has examined 19th century Japanese approaches to the management of male anxiety. Additionally, he is a leading expert on the history of sumo wrestling and its social significance. He also served for 15 years as director of the East Asian Studies Center, where he focused his efforts on developing a Korean Studies program and an endowment for the Korean Heritage Library collection at USC. | |
