| D. Brendan Nagle, professor of history (emeritus) was educated in Ireland; at Catholic University of American (STB. 1960); and at USC (MA and PhD, 1968). In 1970 he was National Endowment of the Humanities Fellow at the American Academy in Rome. From 1976 to 1983 he was chairman of the History Department. His most recent book is Ancient Rome: A History (Cornwall-on-Hudson: Sloan Publishing, 2010). He is the author of The Ancient World: A Social and Cultural History 7th edition (Upper Saddle River, NJ: Prentice Hall, 2010); The Ancient World: Readings in Social and Cultural History 4th edition (Upper Saddle River, NJ: Prentice Hall, 2010) (with S. M. Burstein); The Household as the Foundation of Aristotle’s Polis (New York: Cambridge University Press, 2006); Readings in Greek History (New York: Oxford University Press, 2007) (with S. M. Burstein); and The Roman World:; Sources and Interpretations (Upper Saddle River, NJ: Prentice Hall, 2005). His over 50 articles and reviews have appeared in such journals as: American Historical Review; American Journal of Archaeology; Ancient History Bulletin; Athenaeum; Journal of American Ethnic History; L’Antiquité classique; Rheinisches Museum für Philologie; Transactions of the American Philological Society. He received the Social Science Division Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1984. | |
