Summary Statement of Research Interests
Professor Dane studies medieval literature, bibliography and the history of printing. His books include What is a Book? The Study of Early Printed Books (Notre Dame, 2012); Out of Sorts: On Typography and Print Culture (U. Penn., 2011); Abstractions of Evidence in the Study of Early Books and Manuscripts (Ashgate, 2009); The Long and the Short of It: Guide to European Versification Systems (Notre Dame, 2009); The Myth of Print Culture (UToronto, 2003); Who is Buried in Chaucer's Tomb? (Mich. St. UP, 1998); The Critical Mythology of Irony (Georgia, 1990), and Dogfish Memory: A Memoir (Countryman Press/W. W. Norton, 2011). His articles appear in Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America, Studies in Bibliography, The Library, Huntington Library Quarterly, Gutenberg Jahrbuch, and Modern Language Review.
