Kathryn Page-Lippsmeyer
Email: pagelipp@usc.edu Research Area of Interest: The focus of my research is on gender and genre in modern and contemporary Japanese literature, especially feminist writings in both science fiction and mainstream fiction. I am currently exploring the ways in which a gendered posthuman subject is being constructed in these texts that is not postgender; in particular I am fascinated by the way the hermaphrodite characters in Ohara Mariko, Yumiko Kurahashi and Sayuri Ueda's works display and perform their own bodies to disrupt binary configurations. More recently I have begun to explore the emergence of the body in postwar science fiction magazine artwork, and am analyzing the connections between this visual construction of a genre and the written word that emerged out of it. Additionally I work on fan production and moments of spontaneous collective authorship and new textual production that arise out of the enhanced networking capabilities of the internet, including the production of the popular work Densha Otoko. |
