Phuong Nguyen completed his B.A. in Ethnic Studies at the University of California, San Diego. He joined the fall 2002 cohort at USC after spending a couple of years in the NYU American Studies Program. With interests that include race and ethnicity in the 20th century, cultural history, and popular culture, Phuong wants to uncover the untold history of Asians writing for the Black Press during the 1940s, and the significance of such intersections and their absence from the collective memories and cultural politics of people of color in the United States. He is currently working with Lon Kurashige (ASE & History), George Sanchez (ASE & History), Leland Saito (ASE & Sociology), and Laura Pulido (ASE & Geography).
