SECTION of NEUROBIOLOGY ACCOLADES Karen Ling, a graduate student in the Ko Lab, will give a podium presentation entitled "Synaptic defects in spinal muscular atrophy: an investigation of central vs. peripheral synaptopathy in a mouse model of SMA" at the 14th Annual International Spinal Muscular Atrophy Research Group Meeting 2010 in Santa Clara, CA. Dr. Emily Liman has been elected as a standing member of the NIH Center for Scientific Review Somatosensory and Chemosensory Systems Study Section (SCS). In her 4-year term Dr. Liman will review research on the anatomy, physiology and psychophysics of chemosensory, pain, analgesia and somatosensory systems in animals and humans. Ming-Yi Lin and Wendy Knowlton, graduate students in the Ko Lab and McKemy Lab, respectively, have been selected to present their research at Nanosymposiums at the 2010 Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting in San Diego. Dr. Florian Freudenberg, a postdoctoral fellow in the Celikel Lab, has been awarded the prestigious Feodor Lynen-Stipendium by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Research in the Celikel Lab was recently the spotlight of a USC Research Video. |
