Welcome to Human & Evolutionary Biology

Class room
The primary scientific mission of Human & Evolutionary Biology section is the elucidation of the structure and function of the human organism within the context of development, environment, pathology and evolution. Faculty research involves studies at all levels of the human organism including genetic, molecular, organismal, behavioral and systems. There is also a strong focus on translational research involving the use of other models to garner a better understanding of underlying mechanisms. Though diverse, research interests of the HEB faculty include particular strengths in areas of endocrinology & metabolism, neuromuscular control & biomechanics, primatology and human evolution.

The integrative nature of our faculty's research has led to extensive collaborations with other faculty within the Biological Sciences as well as other units across the University, e.g. Viterbi School of Engineering, Keck School of Medicine, and Andrus School of Gerontology. Additional collaborations are found with units outside of USC, e.g. L.A. County Natural History Museum, LA Veteran's Administration and Rancho Los Amigos.
