Australian National University

Program Site: The Australian National University (ANU). The spacious ANU campus is a 10-minute walk from Canberra’s civic center.

Eligibility: Minimum USC cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

Description: The Australian National University is internationally recognized both in research and teaching. ANU is ranked first in Australia and in the top 20 worldwide. The campus has about 16,000 students, a quarter of whom are international students. Study abroad students are directly enrolled in classes with Australian students. As Australia’s capital, Canberra has a wealth of national political institutions, embassies, research institutes, and non-governmental organizations. The city is also a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. The lake in the center of the city and nearby rivers and mountains provide lots of recreational opportunities. 

Academics: A wide selection of courses is available in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences, including engineering. Students can take courses in the College of Arts and Social Sciences, College of Science, College of Engineering, College of Commerce, or the College of Asia and the Pacific. Fine Arts majors and minors can take studio arts courses at ANU’s highly regarded School of Art. 

Course Load and Credit: Students take 4 courses and earn a maximum of 16 per semester.

Activities and Other Program Features: ANU has a wide range of student clubs and societies that USC students are encouraged to join. ANU’s residential colleges are active communities with intramural sports and a variety of social activities.

Accommodation: Students are guaranteed on-campus housing in a residential college where they will have ample opportunities to interact with Australian students.  Some residence halls have meal plans, while others are “self-catered” with kitchens available.

Dates: Fall, Spring or Year. Fall semester (ANU’s Semester 2) runs from mid-July to late November. Spring semester (ANU’s Semester 1) runs from mid-February to late June.

If you plan to go abroad in the USC fall semester, please be aware that your financial aid will not be disbursed until 10 days before classes begin at your program and not before the end of July.
