Article on Andrew Curtis' current project in the New York Times.

"The Changing Landscape of the Lower Ninth Ward."

Before Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans’s Lower 9th Ward was home to an estimated 18,000 people. But five years later, only about a quarter of that number live in the hard-hit neighborhood. Andrew Curtis, a university researcher, leads a team of students and local community members that is documenting the substantial changes in the area. Take a tour of the evolving landscape of the Lower Ninth Ward and read what local residents and researchers have to say.

Department of American Studies and Ethnicity Make a Gift

Drawing upon the cultural resources of a cosmopolitan city on the Pacific Rim and upon the strength and diversity of its professional schools as well as departments in the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, our degree programs provide a richly interdisciplinary curriculum that is unique for its constitution of American Studies and Ethnic Studies as a comparative and interethnic program.

One of the most striking aspects of this department is the thorough integration of American Studies and Ethnic Studies, a pairing that offers a more substantial understanding of the diversity of American society and culture. USC's Department of American Studies & Ethnicity is solidly based in the humanities, social sciences, as well as in several professional schools, such as Cinematic Arts, Communication, and Law.
