Hi everyone!Rachel Z Intro Photo

I’m Rachel, and I’m a sophomore studying biology here at USC! Being pre-med means that I spend an unfortunate amount of time in various libraries on campus, but because I love this school so much (and in order to preserve what’s left of my sanity), I try to venture out as often as I can. Along with being a Dornsife Ambassador, I am also a member of the LEAD mentoring program, Trojans Preventing Cancer, and Phi Sigma Biological Sciences honor society. Getting involved in school activities is so important to me, and I can’t wait to join more clubs and organizations! I’d like to take advantage of all the opportunities that USC and Dornsife have to offer, so I’m looking into finding a cancer research lab to work in and planning to study abroad in Paris!

I’m from Los Angeles, so for me, “home” is a short (but not really) drive up the 101 (thanks, LA traffic). However, because I’ve lived in the valley my whole life, I never spent much time outside of it…yeah, I don’t know what I was thinking either. Being at USC has encouraged me to explore the city that I’ve called home for my entire life. My friends and I make it a point to take frequent trips to the beach, museums, and restaurants. We even ventured out to see the American Horror Story house from season one! I love this city; it’s incredible. Unfortunately, growing up here desensitized me from some of the magic. For example, I’ve seen the Hollywood sign about a million times, so it never had much of an impact on me. But when I took my friends to see it for the first time, their excitement reminded me how lucky I am to not only live in such an exciting city but also go to school here.

When I’m not exploring LA, I’m constantly roaming around campus. I love finding new study and reading spots on campus. The courtyard outside of Doheny and Literatea are two of my favorite places — it’s so beautiful and peaceful here! Leavey can start to feel like an asylum after a while, so I prefer the book stacks in Doheny. The grassy areas around Taper are nice places to relax, and when the weather is nice and warm (and contrary to popular belief, it does get cold here), McCarthy quad is a great place to lay out in the sun. I’m so grateful to be a part of this school, and I’m so excited to see what opportunities and experiences are in store for me here!
