This past weekend was Relay for Life at USC! Cromwell track was busy with walkers and runners alike and the center of the field was populated with tents and people playing soccer and frisbee.

I walked with the USC Helenes and our theme was “Outsmart Brain Cancer.” I walked about 15 laps, so almost 4 miles, in the afternoon and came back at night to run another 12 laps, or 3 miles. My roommate stayed on the track the entire 24 hours, from noon Saturday to noon Sunday. She also donated 8 inches of her hair to cancer patients! Unfortunately, I didn’t have 8 inches to donate, but another friend of mine donated hers as well, so…
It was great to see USC come together to fight back against cancer, especially since many of the students knew someone or were themselves affected. We all walked together and had a Helene on the track at all times during the 24 hours. Last I checked, we had raised a little over $70,000 as a school, which is amazing!
I can’t wait until next year; next time, I’m planning on pulling the all-nighter! That will be by far the best reason I have ever had to stay up for 24 straight hours.
