My name is Halle Edwards-McQuilton and I’m a freshman this year at USC. Coming here was not only a transition into college life, but also a 3,000 mile move from Boston to Los Angeles. I am loving the weather, people, classes, activities… did I mention the weather? Let’s just say I won’t miss the snow. Since I’ve been at USC, I’ve acquired many new skills, such as pretending I understand the rules of football (hint: just cheer when everyone wearing cardinal cheers).
Not only did I move across the country, but I also went from a class of 30 to a class of 3,021. Academic life has definitely been an adjustment. It has been a challenge — in a good way — to figure out how to manage my time, study for tests, communicate with teachers, etc. in a totally new type of learning environment.
I’m currently an American Studies and Ethnicity major, but I’m very open-minded and undecided! This semester I’m exploring some math classes as a potential option, but who knows?! I love having the opportunity to try new things and find out what I’m really interested in. I am also in Thematic Option, the small honors general education program. I will be working in one of the dorms on campus very soon, so you know who to call if you ever lose your keys or need to borrow a vacuum.
The first two months of life here at SC have gone by so fast, and I can’t wait to see what else is in store! Fight on!
