I have been hoping to come to Paris with the Sciences Po program since I first heard about it at a study abroad info session I attendedbefore starting at USC. Now, I’m finally here! After a very long and exhausting trip – having left on a Sunday night and arrived on a Tuesday morning – I finally made it to my new home for the next few months.
One of my roommates, Melissa, came to the airport to pick me up and we got on the train towards Paris – in the middle of rush hour. Definitely one of the most interesting public transportation experiences I’ve had. We were getting pushed and shoved in every direction and had to maneuver my suitcases carefully to get out of the train, but in the end we made it out alive.
My apartment is located in the 7th arrondisement of Paris near my school. I am living with two other American girls also studying at Sciences Po. Although my room is technically the living room, the apartment is great! And the view isn’t bad either.
Two times a week there is an open-air market held just down the street from my apartment at the Place de Breteuil. They sell fresh fruits and vegetables, meats and cheeses, and even clothes and arts & crafts. I was able to go there when I first arrived, and it was great seeing all of the day-to-day interactions of the shoppers, plus it’s in a beautiful area right by the Eiffel Tower.
For the first few days, I had tons of things to get done, like getting my cell phone, student ID, and opening a bank account, but now I’ve been able to start my adventure in Paris and to see all it has to offer. I’ll keep you all updated as I explore new parts of the city!
